In the Old Testament we see that God’s people were continually bent on doing evil and steering away from God through a number of avenues.  In this passage Paul advised the church to specifically beware of sexual immorality and idolatry.  The good news is, though, that when we are faced with any temptation we have the capacity to overcome it through the power of the Holy Spirit working in us.
